Dating back thousands of years, Reflexology is a theraputic and holistic treatment. Alternative to treating a specific problem with drugs, Reflexology aims to treat the 'whole' of the body with the main aim of restoring balance and equilibrium. Pressure, massage and manipulation is applied to the whole of the foot and lower leg on specific points called 'reflexes'. Reflexologists believe that the foot is 'mapped' and reflects the many organs and systems of the body. Treating or 'working' a specific reflex point on the foot can help the corresponding area of the body, be it an organ, a part of a system (digestive, respiratory etc), the spine, skin and so on.
Reflexology helps to energise, detox and decongest the body, reduce stress, aid relaxation and promote an overall sense of wellbeing.
Never is a Reflexologist allowed to Diagnose, Prescribe or claim they can Cure.
An ode to the feet
Feet are all totally unique. Even to the point that the left often differs from the right. Feet come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny and cute to large and powerful and everything inbetween. They can vary, not only in size and shape, but in colour, texture, odour and temperature. Feet are odd, lets face it not many of us have particulally beautiful feet. Some people (like me) have a 'good' foot and a 'bad' foot, one being ok to show and the other being hidden most of the time. The anatomy of the feet is complex - they each have 26 bones, 33 joints, over 100 tendons, muscles and ligamnets holding everything together and thousands and thousands of nerve endings.
Feet do a hard job. They bear your weight, keep you upright and carry you through life! If they are not happy it can directly and indirectly effect the rest of your body. Look after them, dry them, moisturise them, give them some care. Look after them and they will continue to look after you.
